Teach and Model

Children need to be taught! This requires expressive teaching and most importantly - an appropriate model! Our atmosphere enables children to respect themselves and others. Through diverse opportunities and specific teachings, we enhance children’s ability to socialize with others, listen/follow directions, express themselves and have fun! 

Direct and Play

Expressive feedback and practice are  important for children. It gives them a space to implement what they have learned and succeed with support. Once a child is taught and provided with a model, it is important they are given the chance to put that skill into practice. This promotes success, confidence and increases their independence! Playing basketball promotes thinking, problem solving and turn taking. It helps children develop skills in all areas and explore their abilities!

Our classes are carefully crafted to meet the development needs of each and every child. Our educators and support staff are highly professional and trained. 

Lauren

Varney, M.A.

Owner/Founder

My name is Lauren Varney, the Owner/Founder of Hoop with Heart. This program has been a dream of mine for years and the time has finally come. I know that the Lord has great things planned for the families in this community and I can't wait to be a part of it.


I am a behavior specialist and an athlete. I grew up in Ventura County and have worked here in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis for the past 8 years. I have helped over 100+ children/families learn communication skills, meet developmental milestones and create lasting behavior change.


I started playing basketball at the age of 7. It was my passion growing up and something I worked very hard at. I played at Oak Park High School and eventually went on to play in college at San Francisco State University. In my twenties, I was blessed with the opportunity to play overseas in the Federacao Portuguesa de Basquetebol in Lisbon, Portugal.


I want to share my passion for the game of basketball with the families in my community. My prayer is that Hoop with Heart is a place where children can be taught appropriate skills that will help them live fruitful lives.
